Is your TV time competing with your workout schedule? Don’t fret; you can watch your show and your weight at the same.
TV can even make your workouts go by faster, seeing as how most people need distractions because they don’t like exercise. It may even encourage you to keep coming back, since you’ll start looking forward to TV time on the treadmill. A Netflix survey reveals that 45% of people think they’d be more motivated to exercise if they could simultaneously binge-watch their shows.
If your head is bobbing up and down, you won’t be able to watch the screen. The stationary bike, elliptical or, if you don’t have a very bouncy stride, the treadmill are steady options.
If you just want to improve your fitness levels or burn calories consumed, you only need to do cardio at about 75% of your maximum effort. Keep going for the duration of the show, since the activity isn’t intense enough to justify taking a break after 15 minutes of sweating.
Don’t fast forward the commercials, use this time to crank up the intensity of the workout, moving to an easier pace during the show. This kind of interval training is both effective, and fun.
Do squats, lunges, or other body-weight exercises during the commercial breaks. Or try a flexibility workout session, sitting on the floor with an exercise ball and hold stretches while you’re watching.
But do note, screen time only allows for a low intensity workout. If you’re exercising to improve performance, turn the TV off.
