There was a time when mom was the one who inspired you to new heights. Now, it’s your turn to motivate her to adopt a healthier lifestyle. This Mother’s Day, make it your mission to get mom off the couch. She may complain at first, but once it grows on her, she will find it pleasant and rewarding, and it will act as a definite mood improver.

The best way to get anyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle is by following one yourself. So let your mother see how it has helped you and participate in her lifestyle transition, say by cooking her healthier meals, suggesting nutritious snack ideas or even working out with her. And while you can’t exercise for her, you can convince her to try even if she doesn’t want to. Here are three tips you can use to convince mom to get moving:

Strength equals self-sufficiency

Being strong is empowering, especially for a person who is aging and adapting to diminished energy levels. Exercise and strength training help you look and feel younger and stay active longer. Regular physical activity lowers your risk for a variety of conditions, including Alzheimer’s and dementia, heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer, high blood pressure and obesity.

Exercise is a lifestyle, not an event

Being active doesn’t only mean going to the gym three times a week.  It’s also in the little things, like running errands or walking while you talk on the phone. If your parent is a senior, suggest she start by cooking a meal or taking a walk in the garden or mall, anything that gets you going.

Healthy behaviour inspires healthy behaviour

Exercise, healthy eating, good sleep, a positive frame of mind. These things are all related.

What are GLP-1 peptides?

They are small sequences of amino acids that are secreted from cells in the small intestine and the brain. They work as physiological regulators of appetite and food intake – basically they transmit the message that the stomach is full to the brain.
